Once Upon a Time in Reality…
Cyrus earned herself fame and wealth as a child playing the character Hannah Montana on The Disney Channel. The Hanna Montana franchise was wildly popular as millions of little girls had girl crushes on Miley. Miss Cyrus is all grown up and is currently loathed by many of the same fans that once loved her. Miley told the world —on SNL— that Hannah has been murdered. When considering the long list of beloved child actors and artist who have met horrible fates as adults due to their own choices, it is easy to see the genius and sublime element in the truth of Miley’s pronouncement of Hannah’s death.
Liberal and conservative news personalities agree that Miley sucks. There are a plethora of celebrities, actors and artists —from a wide range of backgrounds, political leanings— that are in agreement that Miley is a terrible hack! “Shocking,” “train wreck,” “provocative,” “appalling,” “offensive,” “nasty,” “must be drugs,” and “sowing her oaths” are all common terms and phrases used to describe her performances and her.
I watched the video “Wrecking Ball” to laugh at how terrible it must be. After all, that is what the who’s who of showbiz and news are saying. I was expecting something like a mixture of Madonna’s let’s-have-sex-with-every-item-in-sight, Janet Jackson getting as nasty as she can in public, Lady Gaga in a meat suit, a chick dressed as a man, someone making no sense, and/or a Britney-grade melt down being pawned off as art.
What I saw was a beautiful hot sexy woman who has the power to make concrete, a wrecking ball, and a sledge hammer sexy! I was stunned. She struts towards the camera in white panties, a cut-off wife beater, and boots, dragging a sledge hammer in a sexy, hot-as-hell, rock-and-roll way that is amazing. Then she gets naked to ride a wrecking ball. God, I wanted to be the ball. And surprise, Miley can sing.
The critics hate her, the establishment is raging against her. Parents can’t stand her. Her replies—to the critics and haters—are measured, coherent, accurate, short and to the point. I am betting Miley is unconcerned with all the criticism. In fact, it all works to her favor. Miley—like a pro—used the critics, the haters and media to great effect in killing off Hannah Montana. Don’t think so? Things like being Number 1 at Maxims hottest 100. And getting 19.3 million views of her new video in 24hrs and a total of 40,084,354 views in 2 and half days says she knows exactly what she is doing. This all—the critics, the haters, and how she responds—seems to put in her in good company, as I can think of a lot of music icons who had lots of the same kinds of things said about them in their days. What puts Miley ahead of the curve is that it is a purposeful calculated business plan and a prudent career strategy.
Miley is not for the 11-year-old girls anymore. Disney has left the Cyrus building. She has defiantly moved into the adult world of music and film. With one video, she made me a fan. So haters hate and critics can scoff and be dammed. Miley is here to stay. Like the lady said, “we are going to make history.”
A word to the boys: don’t take my word for it. Take into consideration that as of 10/10/2013 “wrecking ball” has been viewed 216,034,622 times. See for yourself guys, gentlemen, thugs, hipsters, good ole boys, dudes, or whatever…. tune out all the dribble out there about how awful Miley is, watch the video “Wrecking Ball.” I am betting you will love it.
